Waterloo Region recovers from another heavy winter storm and prepares for a work week of bitter cold.
According to 570’s Meteorologist Allister Aalders, 10 to 15 centimetres fell on the region beginning Sunday and into Monday morning. A large and strong low-pressure area passed across the Great Lakes, covering most of southern Ontario.
“It was a larger, more significant winter storm for Toronto and the GTA. Here in Waterloo Region, snowfall amounts were in the range of 10 to 15 cm, likely a few pockets that did exceed that, but overall this was a lighter snowfall event,” said Aalders.
That snowfall led to a number of collisions on Waterloo Region roadways. According to regional police, 21 crashes were reported, three of which involved minor injuries.
Waterloo Region has been hit with an incredible amount of snow so far this season, with the latest numbers from Environment Canada indicating that between 50-60 cm fell in November, 50-55 cm in December, and about 80 cm already in January, leading to a total snowfall of nearly 200 cm.
