New-look Rangers set for Friday clash against Generals

It’s set to be a very special night at The Aud as a new-look Rangers team is set to face the Oshawa Generals, and a Blueshirts legend will have his name lifted into the rafters.

The OHL trade deadline closes on Friday, but the Kitchener Rangers got plenty of business done over the past month to prepare the line-up for a deep push into the playoffs.

In December, the Rangers added Dylan Edwards and Gabriel Chairot to the line-up through trades with the Erie Otters and Brampton Steelheads, respectively.

Then, this week, Rangers GM Mike McKenzie made a blockbuster deal with the London Knights to secure the services of centreman Sam O’Reilly and defender Jared Woolley in exchange for 10 picks and Jacob Xu.

Rangers defenceman Matthew Andonovski will also return to the lineup on Friday after starting the season playing with the Ottawa Senators’ AHL affiliate in Belleville.

On the ice, the Rangers will take on the Oshawa Generals for the second and final time this season. The Generals have faced significant struggles and are the last-placed team in the OHL.

The organization will also honour former Rangers captain Brian Bellows on Friday as part of the Level of Legacy program.

Bellows hoisted the Memorial Cup with the Rangers in 1982 before going on to have a very successful career in the NHL, highlighted by a Stanley Cup win with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.

His name will be hung alongside former coach Pete DeBoer in the rafters at The Aud.
