Rangers get shutout at home by Greyhounds, lose 4-0

It was a night the Kitchener Rangers would rather forget, losing their second game in a shutout loss to the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds.

After a scoreless first period Friday, the Greyhounds came out firing with three straight goals, including two from defenceman Chase Reid.

The Rangers got several chances in the third period, but could not get past the posts or the crossbar to get on the board. Sault. St. Marie added an empty net goal from forward Marco Mignosa near the end of the third to secure the 4-0 victory.

All three stars of the game went to Greyhound players; including Chase Reid (two goals, one assist), goaltender Landon Miller (stopped 18/18 shots) and Marco Mignosa (one goal, one assist).

Kitchener took five penalties during Friday’s game, and head coach Jussi Ahokas was not happy with.

“You have to be smarter,” he said. “I didn’t like our second period. The first and third we had some chances, but the second period was not our hockey.”

The two straight losses now put the Rangers at third in the Midwest Division, with a record of 12-5-2-0 and 26 points.

The Rangers will be looking to rebound on Saturday, as they travel down Highway 7 to take on the Guelph Storm.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
