One man is in hospital following an afternoon shooting in Kitchener that police believed was targeted.

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) responded to the reported shooting on Wednesday afternoon in the Kinzie Avenue and Weber Street East area.

The incident was first reported at approximately 2:45 p.m., with WRPS saying it was notified about potential shots in the area, sending multiple police units to the scene at the Weber Inn on King Street East.

Initially, officers stated one person sustained undisclosed injuries, but later they identified the individual as a 36-year-old man, who needed to be taken to an out-of-town hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of Thursday morning, WRPS is now saying it has arrested three men and one woman, ranging from 20-40 years old.

The investigation into the shooting in Kitchener remains ongoing, and police appealed to the public for any information or tips.

The incident was the 13th shooting in Waterloo Region so far this year and the 8th to be reported since the start of June, police told CityNews in an email.
