A 15-year-old boy received a sextortion threat, according to Guelph Police, and they’ve sent out another reminder about sharing intimate pictures of yourself.
Police got the call Monday evening, bringing investigators out to a home in the east end of the Royal City.
Police allege a 15-year-old boy had been contacted by a stranger on Snapchat.
The boy believed that person was female, and they began communicating.
It got to the point where the boy was asked for an intimate photo of himself, which he took and sent along.
Police said that’s when messages started coming in demanding payment to keep the photo from being shared with the boy’s social media contacts.
No money was ever sent, according to police — they have not specified if the photo was actually shared.
Police remind everyone to never share intimate images online, because they can be saved and passed around at any time.
And if someone you don’t know asks for a photo like that, police say “do not comply and cease communicating with them.”
