Multi-tower development aims to transform industrial into residential

A cluster of residential towers is being proposed for an industrial site development in Kitchener.

The proposed development, coming to Kitchener committee and council from Hogg Fuel & Supply, could add more than 2,600 units of residential development to the area of Lancaster Street West and Wellington Street North.

The nine towers included in the proposal range from 12 to 36 storeys tall, a mix of one and two-bedroom units, with a green space in the centre of the site.

The developers have applied for an Official Plan Amendment and a Zoning By-law Amendment to change the site from industrial to residential.

The neighbourhood surrounding the proposal site is mostly single-family homes, and the tallest of the towers included in the proposal would stand over the Woodside National Historic Site.

This isn’t the only significant residential build coming to Kitchener, as about a kilometre west of this proposal is the site of the Victoria Commons development, which will add more than 1,000 units of housing through a trio of towers in the coming years.

A public information session is set to be held on July 30.
