Tuesday temperatures will once again be up in the thirties with humidex values up to 40 C or higher, but it’s expected to be the final day of the extended heat wave seen in the region.
A heat dome continues to linger over most of Ontario and into Quebec for a third straight day. Heat warnings are in place from Windsor, Ont., through to Quebec City.
This includes Waterloo Region, which is set to reach 32 C on Tuesday, with a humidex of nearly 40 C.
Environment Canada warns heat stroke is still very much a concern.
“Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water,” reads the warning.
Relief is on the way for Wednesday, with a high of 29 C, and then down to 24 C on Thursday.
But that brief pause could be short-lived, says 570 NewsRadio Meteorologist Jill Taylor.
“Things are going to heat up and we have higher humidity again, by Sunday it will feel closer to 37 C.”
Major weather records have already been broken during this heat wave in Waterloo Region.
Both Sunday and Monday were warm enough at 33 C and 34 C respectively to break record highs from 1923.
It’s unlikely a record high will be beaten Tuesday, with that record set back in 1952 at 36.1 C.
