Stanley Cup Kitchener connection, love for Canadian family watching

Another year, another American team defeating a Canadian club in a Stanley Cup final.

The Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 on Tuesday night.

But although Lord Stanley was held high in Florida this year, celebrations were held all across Canada, including here in Waterloo Region.

Florida Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice gave a shoutout to his Canadian family during his on-ice interview with Sportsnet.

“All our family in Windsor, Ontario, Kitchener, Ontario … All the fine people up in Winnipeg, the family and friends that we have there, I hope that you enjoyed your evening.”

His brother Doctor Mike Maurice is a surgeon in Waterloo Region.

This marks the second year in a row the Oilers have lost to the Panthers in the final after dropping Game 7 last June.
