Cambridge man allegedly assaulted, abducted, dies after crash in Guelph

A Cambridge man was allegedly assaulted and abducted, and later died in hospital after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in Guelph.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say that it happened May 14, and now they’re searching for five suspects.

Police were called out to the Hanlon Parkway around 6:00 that evening for a collision in the southbound lanes, near Stone Road.

A 40-year old man from Cambridge was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital, where he died. The OPP learned the Cambridge man had been assaulted and abducted from a home on Fife Road by suspects, who left that scene in two vehicles.

One was described as a grey 2010 Toyota Venza SUV, with Ontario licence plate CVBX 602.

The other was a white 2013 Dodge RAM pickup truck, with Ontario licence plate BZ 85153.

Police asked for the public’s help to find that pickup.

Police do not say which of those vehicles was involved in the Wednesday evening collision.

In a previous statement sent out Friday about the collision, the OPP said, “One person with life-threatening injuries was located at the scene upon police arrival. Both vehicles involved in the collision had fled before officers arrived.”

There’s no word yet how or why the Cambridge man who died was involved in all this, and no word on whether he died of injuries sustained in the alleged assault or in the collision.

There were no suspect descriptions from officials, only the descriptions of the vehicles.

The OPP was working with Guelph Police in the ongoing investigation.

Police asked for everyone with a home or business, and any drivers in the area of the crash or Fife Road, to check all their security camera and dash cam videos for anything that might be helpful.

Anyone who knows anything about what happened is asked to call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or clicking here.
