The Kitchener Rangers win streak has officially hit double digits after a shutout victory over the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds on Friday with a 4-0 final result.
Captain Matthew Andonovski opened the scoring in the first period just two minutes into the game. Luca Romano and Trent Swick both scored in the second period to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead. Greyhounds goalie Landon Miller was replaced halfway through the second after surrendering three goals. Kitchener’s Andrew Vermeulen added one more tally in the third period.
Goaltender Jackson Parsons received first star honours by stopping 20 shots in the shutout victory. Friday’s win is also Jackson’s fifth recorded shutout in his OHL career.
570 colour commentator Paul Fixter said Parsons may be in contention for OHL player of the week honours again if he keeps this performance up over the next two games.
“He was outstanding again tonight,” said Fixter. “We always know and say that your best penalty killer has to be your goaltender, and tonight he proved that again.”
Friday night’s game was also the Remembrance Day game, with the Rangers wearing their D-Day inspired jerseys.
The Rangers will begin a two game road trip Saturday as they travel to Owen Sound for their game against the Attack.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and you can catch all the action here on 570 News Radio starting at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter.
