Fireworks rescheduled for Cambridge, North Dumfries after Canada Day storm

It’s take two for Canada Day fireworks in Cambridge and North Dumfries.
A significant thunderstorm swept through Waterloo Region on July 1 which affected many municipalities’ planned celebrations.
While some were able to temporarily pause their events and resume once the fast and furious system fizzled out, others weren’t able to proceed.
In North Dumfries, the storm quickly damaged vendor tents, tipped over portable washrooms, scattered debris across the fields in Cowan Park, and caused a power outage.
The Township said its stash of fireworks was safely protected from the storm and staff held onto them with the intention of celebrating together safely at another time.
Riverside Park in Cambridge was also hit hard by the storm, causing the city to cancel remaining Canada Day festivities, including the fireworks display.
“We know many residents were looking forward to ending the evening with a spectacular celebration, and we appreciate your understanding,” read a social media post from the City of Cambridge.
The city has now announced that the fireworks have been rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 1, beginning at dusk.
Community members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to Riverside Park to watch the show, and hope for good weather and a clear sky.
The Township of North Dumfries has also rescheduled its fireworks for next month.
They’ll be set off at Cowan Park to conclude the Live Blast of Summer event on Aug. 22.
