Kitchener company loses millions after cyberattacks; arrest warrant issued

Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a man in connection to a series of cyberattacks against a Kitchener technology company.

It happened between May and August 2023, with investigators saying the company’s networks were illegally accessed, which resulted in the theft of confidential data. The attacker made multiple ransom demands in an unsuccessful attempt to extort money from the company, police said.

The attacks had a “significant” impact on the company, the clients and resulted in damages estimated to be in the millions of dollars, the release notes.
