The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is investigating after an employee was found dead inside a grocery store’s walk-in freezer.

The Zehrs located on Conestoga Boulevard near Dunbar Road in Cambridge closed Tuesday for a police investigation but reopened on Wednesday morning.

Calls came in to the CityNews Kitchener newsroom Tuesday morning reporting a heavy police presence at the store.

According to regional police, the death does not appear to be suspicious but the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement to CityNews Kitchener, the ministry expressed condolences to the employee’s family.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker during this difficult time. An MLITSD inspector has been assigned to investigate. As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide further details at this time.”
