Public input requested as WRPS board develops 2025 budget

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board (WRPSB) is developing the 2025 budget and is asking residents to share their priorities in an upcoming virtual public engagement session.

Policing is one of the most significant costs to taxpayers in Waterloo Region, so ensuring the public’s input is considered is a major priority according to the police service.

In a release, WRPSB Chair Ian McLean said, “We hope to hear a diverse range of perspectives from community partners who share our goal of building a stronger, safer, and more equitable Waterloo Region.”

This year, WRPS launched a new Strategic Business Plan and implemented the province’s Community Safety and Policing Act. Those, along with rapid population growth in the region all need to be considered when setting a new spending plan.

A virtual public input session is scheduled for Monday, October 28, 2024 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Those wishing to speak must register as a delegate, and will be given 5 minutes to address council before fielding questions from the members.

If you are unable to attend, written submissions can be emailed to board@wrps.on.ca by October, 28th.
