Local police are launching a program to protect people in the region from fraud and scams.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is participating in Fraud Prevention Month by kicking off its campaign to inform the public through a series of posts on WRPS social media platforms.

The kinds of scams they’ll be highlighting include:

  • bitcoin scams
  • renovation scams
  • gift card scams
  • employment scams
  • scams that target seniors

Fraud Prevention Month is an annual awareness campaign that gives people all over the country the opportunity to stay informed on the dangers of fraud and to educate themselves on steps to take to help prevent them from falling victim.
