Laurier women win OUA curling championship

By Mark Pare

The Laurier Golden Hawks are 2022 OUA women's curling champions.

And they defeated their crosstown rival to clinch the trophy.

The team, led by skip Isabelle Ladouceur, claimed a 5-4 win in extra ends over the Waterloo Warriors, wrapping up a 6-1 weekend at the Westmount Golf and Country Club in Waterloo.

Their only defeat came in the round robin, a 2-1 decision to Trent, before going through Ryerson and Carleton to get to the all-Waterloo final.

Waterloo also finished 3-1 in the qualifier round, before taking down McMaster and Brock in the playoffs.

Ladouceur, and vice Jamie Smith, are also not done on the pebbled ice.

Back in December, they were named to Team Canada for the World Junior Curling Championship, being held March 5-12 in Sweden.
