Police make arrest in serial child predator case

By Blair Adams

Waterloo Regional Police have made an arrest in connection with three sexual assaults on young girls in the region.

At a news conference on Friday morning, police announced a Milton man, 32, was arrested on Thursday afternoon.

Timi Gusak is facing charges including three counts of sexual assault, as well as three counts of sexual interference.

He was in court on Friday.

The alleged assaults happened between 2013 and 2019:

  • October 20, 2013, a four-year-old girl was assaulted inside an apartment located at 429 Barrie Street in Waterloo
  • On October 27, 2017, a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in an apartment at 318 Patricia Avenue in Kitchener
  • On July 6, 2019, a four-year-old girl was assaulted inside an apartment on Brybeck Crescent

Inspector Mark Crowell said the suspect lived in Waterloo Region during the first two assaults, but was living outside the area during the most recent one in July.

“We continue to explore all investigative leads … We continue to explore relationships and I can say he (suspect) does have personal connections to this region that remain.” added Crowell.

Last month, police announced the three assaults had been linked by DNA.

Although police are confident that they have arrested the person responsible, they continue to appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.

Police can be reached at at 519-570-9777 ext. 8191.

Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at waterloocrimestopers.com.

Crowell called the investigation, led by the Major Crime Unit – “a total service effort,” – which also included members of the Investigative Services Division, Neighbourhood Police and Forensic Identification.
