Mike Fisher announces retirement after 17 NHL seasons

Mike Fisher has retired after 17 NHL seasons, the 37-year-old announced on Thursday.
He broke his retirement with a message to Nashville Predators fans in The Tennessean.
“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I know I’ve made the right one. I’ve decided to retire from the NHL,” he wrote.
“I believe that this team, that this city, is going to win a championship, and I’m going to be the biggest fan. No one will be happier than I will be to see it happen, because, these fans, they deserve it.”
The Ottawa Senators drafted Fisher in the second round, 44th overall, in 1998. He was traded to Nashville during his 11th season with the Senators.
The Peterborough, Ont., native became just the sixth captain in Predators franchise history ahead of the 2016-17 season, as the team reached new heights in making its first Stanley Cup Final.
Fisher finishes his NHL career with 276 goals and 585 points in 1,088 games.
