To many, December is a time for holiday cheer, but the mood on university and college campuses is not so cheerful.
That’s because December means exam time for students, with all the added stress and anxiety that goes with it.
Each of the regions post-secondary institutions, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College have numerous resources to help students who feel overwhelmed.
Erica Mckellar is a coach with the Student Success Centre at the University of Waterloo, she says that just identifying what issues are affecting a student can make a big difference,
“We meet with students to really just try to figure out what is stressing them out, if they are really emotionally stressed, maybe connecting them with our counselling services on campus, if they need academic support in terms of breaking some tasks down, maybe creating a study plan, they can connect with some at the student success centre.”
Mckellar adds, that what ever the situation is, there is always people willing to help, and just talking with someone can make a huge difference.
