Excitement is in the air at the University of Guelph as the university gets set to host its first bowl game in 31 years.
The Gryphons entertain the defending Vanier Cup champion Montreal Carabins at 12:30pm on Saturday in the Mitchell Bowl. You can watch the game on Sportsnet 360.
Guelph won the Yates Cup last weekend with a win over Western. It was their first Yates since 1996.
Gryphons Head Coach Stu Lang expects another low scoring game: “They (Montreal) just sort of continue to grind and grind and grind and are always there and ready to win at the end…”
Lang says they’ve got the Yates Cup hidden away in their equipment room in an effort to re-focus for the Mitchell.
He adds that players were back watching film and working out Sunday morning: “As I told them, not many players at the university level get a chance to win a national championship, so lets make sure we focus and seize the moment as we’re saying.”
The winner books a spot in next weekend’s Vanier Cup.
