11:00 – It’s Never Okay
Sara Casselman, Public Relations & Operations Manager, Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region
Kathleen Wynne says sexual violence and harassment are “rooted in misogyny.” The premier made the declaration as she unveiled the government’s “It’s Never Okay” plan. The plan includes new legislation and a public awareness campaign centred on an ad depicting assaults and harassment Wynne described as uncomfortable to watch. It comes with a 41-million-dollar commitment over three years, and is aimed at tackling workplace harassment, the prosecution of sexual assault cases, and victim support. Colleges and universities would be required by law to have a sexual assault policy and publicly report their statistics on sexual violence.

Paul Osborne, Associate Vice-President, Marketing, Enrollment Management & Registrar Conestoga College
