Portion of Can-Amera Parkway to be fully closed this weekend for paving

A $2.72 million road reconstruction project is coming to a close after months of construction along Can-Amera Parkway.

This Saturday, Oct 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4, surfacing paving will have the busy roadway closed between Franklin Boulevard and Conestoga Boulevard.

It marks the near-end of a project that has been in the works since last year, and has had construction crews on site since July.

On each end of the closure this weekend, the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Can-Amera Parkway as well as the Conestoga Boulevard roundabout will stay open during paving.

Road reconstruction began on Can-Amera Parkway in Cambridge in July 2026 (City of Cambridge)

The project itself began back in July, and has since seen new multi-use paths installed on both sides of Can-Amera Parkway, new street lighting, and the guiderails replaced on the north side of the road.

Those new multi-use paths will remain open as the asphalt work is completed on Saturday and Sunday. Grand River Transit detour information can be found here.

The Region of Waterloo’s construction page has the entire project listed as completed by Monday, Oct. 5.

This coming weekend, motorists will need to detour around the closure using Hespeler Road, Bishop Street and Franklin Boulevard.
