12:00- Renovations Made Easy from RENOMii
Scott Barker, Co-founder of Renomii
RENOMii lets you communicate with your contractor on every detail and automatically organizes & stores every communication so that they are always easy to find & access. And because it always keeps you updated on the final contract value, there won’t be any unpleasant surprises at the end. At the Toronto Fall Home Show later this week, another version of RENOMii will be launched. This one is for homeowners who want to act as their own general contractors, hiring and supervising subtrades. And different versions are planned for other sectors, such as road builders. The app can be adapted to work for any business that involves change orders. Barker, 41, was injured working at Toyota and went back to school for civil engineering and business. Then he did home renovations. After he started working on RENOMii, Barker found out he had cancer, and beat it.
12:30- The Live Local KW Challenge started yesterday
Juliana Gomez, Founder Live Local KW
Live Local KW is a one week challenge to support local businesses and organizations by eating, shopping, and playing local. During the week of September 14 – 20, 2014, participating local businesses will hold special discounts and deals for those participating in the challenge. The challenge operates under an honor system but if you truly must consume a nonlocal thing, we encourage participants to put aside a toonie every time they “cheat”. At the end of the week, toonies for cheating will be donated to Foodlink. There are plenty of local businesses and organizations making delicious food, hooking you up with neat things and entertaining you. Live Local for one week to kickbutt in a challenge, to support your community, to hang out with your neighbours or all of the above.. chances are if you do participate, you’ll end up doing all these things anyways. What’s Local? Ideally, local businesses are founded, owned and operated by a resident of KW. While we’ll happily give you suggestions and tips of what local means to us, we don’t plan on taking the fun away from your week by giving you a black and white list of what or where you can or can’t spend your money/time. Instead, you can decide what local means to you. Remember, the challenge operates on an honor code so be honest and hold yourself accountable.
