As October begins, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is launching its ninth annual Harvest Food Drive.
On Saturday, Oct. 3 cash donations are being collected at Sobeys and Zehrs locations across Kitchener and Waterloo between noon and 4 p.m.
“Food insecurity continues to affect thousands of people in our communities each month,” said CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, Kim Wilhelm.
“The Harvest Food Drive brings our community together to help ensure people can access healthy, nutritious food. Every donation helps put fresh food on the table this fall for someone who needs it.”
The cash collected Saturday will go towards purchasing fresh food for those in need.
In Waterloo Region, The Food Bank said one in nine households are experiencing food insecurity.
The Harvest Food Drive kicks off The Food Bank’s annual Fall Food and Fund Drive campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to provide 500,000 meals for neighbours in need.
The Harvest Food Drive alone has helped provide more than 106,000 meals since 2018.
