Enbridge pipeline blockade continues

INNERKIP, Ont. – Protesters blockading an Enbridge pipeline construction site in southwestern Ontario say they’ll keep their demonstration going until their concerns are addressed.
The protest by about 30 activists began Tuesday in the community of Innerkip, near Woodstock along the site of the Line 9 pipeline.
The group, called Dam Line 9, wants to stop the installation of a valve near Thames River, which protesters say isn’t adequately protected from the risk of a spill.
Enbridge isn’t able to continue work to reverse the pipeline due to the blockade.
The company says Line 9, which runs from Sarnia to Montreal, has a good safety record.
Earlier this year, regulators gave Enbridge approval to reverse the pipeline’s flow of crude oil, making it go west-to-east, and increase its capacity.
But opponents argue the reversal puts the environment at risk and that there has been little consultation with aboriginal communities along the route.
