Guelph’s ‘Goods Exchange Weekend’ turns curbs into markets

Twice a year the City of Guelph hosts a “Goods Exchange Weekend”, hoping to prolong the usage of different items. Once over the Labour Day weekend and again across the Victoria Day Weekend.

The City of Guelph says that the goal of this program is to help find new homes for items that are still usable, instead of going directly to the landfill. Residents can take part by putting some gently used items that still have a use onto the curbside.

How to participate:

While anyone in Guelph is welcome to participate, there are some rules to follow:

  • Clearly label the items you’re offering as “FREE” and set the items on to the curb after 5 p.m.
  • Keep any bikes, toys, etc, that you do not want to giveaway far from the curb so there isn’t any confusion.
  • Take a trip around your neighbourhood to see if there’s anything you’re interested in.
  • All unclaimed goods must be removed from the curbside by 7 p.m. on Monday.

Any items that are not removed from the curb after Monday’s 7 p.m., deadline could result in a fine or fee from Guelph’s Waste Management Bylaw. Guelph recommends that you consider donating any left over items to a second-hand store. If you don’t know how to dispose of an item, use the City of Guelph’s “Waste Wizard” for more information.
