The CBS use #cordathon to help build core blood bank

The Canadian Blood Services is using social media today to support a health-care initiative.

The organization is determined to build a public core blood bank and are encouraging people to use the hashtag cordthon on twitter to raise awareness.

Volunteer Co-Chair for the campaign – Dale Sheard tells 570 news there are thousands of patients in Canada who are searching for a stem cell match to cure blood diseases.

“Unfortunately only 50 % are successful in finding a stem cell match and we hope to change that by creating this new national public core blood bank.”

Sheard adds CBS is raising 12.5 million dollars for start up funds and only 3 million is still needed from public donations.
