NELSON, B.C. – The small town of New Denver, B-C is reeling from a terrible loss.
The R-C-M-P say they’ll resume searching at first light for three young males who were in a canoe that capsized in Slocan Lake, in southern B-C’s West Kootenay region.
Police say a young woman who was also in the canoe when it overturned on Saturday was found unconscious and later died.
They haven’t identified the woman, but family friend Dan Nicholson says it was 19-year old Lily Harmer-Taylor who perished.
Nicholson says he lent her and three of her friends his canoe, but it appears they didn’t take his life preservers.
He says Harmer-Taylor, along with 15-year old Jule Wiltshire-Padfield and 21-year old Hayden Kyle were all from New Denver, and that 18-year old Skye Donnet was originally from Gibsons, B-C.
Nicholson told The Canadian Press he knew all four of them well — describing them as wonderful, delightful kids who brought joy his life.
