11:00- Should the City of Kitchener be more accommodating to these businesses? Are they getting a raw deal?
Berry Vrbanovic, Ward 2 Councillor in the City of Kitchener
Kitchener city council will vote tonight on how to deal with the licensing of food trucks. Councillors have been getting an earful from many operators who argue the fees are too high. Street vendors currently pay just under $2,000 to operate in the city. It is cheaper for those that operate stationary refreshment vehicles at just over $1,000. Councillor Berry Vrbanovic made a motion to lower food truck license fees from the proposed $1,947 to about $650 annually.
11:30- Is your family prepared? What’s in your emergency kit? Do you even have one?
Steve LaRochelle, Program Manager, Emergency Measures Office, Region of Waterloo
It’s Emergency Preparedness Week. This Canada-wide initiative helps to increase awareness of individual and family preparedness. Insight from recent emergencies, such as the ice storm in December 2013, has shown that some individuals may not have the support or ability to deal with emergencies due to physical challenges, language barriers, etc. This year’s focus will be to expand emergency preparedness beyond the individual to reach out to neighbours, family and friends who may be vulnerable or incapable of supporting themselves during an emergency. The provincial EP Week theme is “I am ready. We are ready.”
11:45- David Phillips, Senior Climatologist at Environment Canada

It’s either unusually quiet or deadly active. What it could mean for us here? Are we in for a bad summer weather-wise?
