Donor Clinic in Cambridge

The Cambridge Sports Park is hosting a stem cell donor clinic Feb. 22, with the hopes of finding a match for four-year-old Katie Herron. Katie relapsed in November 2013, and is not responding to standard treatments for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Katie’s father Paul Herron tells 570 News that the family is doing all they can to better understand her illness.
“We ended up reading the entire (A.L.L. treatment) protocol so we understood what her bloodcounts meant, what the nutrifills meant, what the platelets meant and how her treatment would play out for the entire duration … we don’t have a choice, we want to know exactly what’s going on each day for our little girl.”
Doctors are currently reviewing what’s next for Katie, before they find a match – with chemo treatment wrapping up. The clinic, taking place from 1 to 5 p.m. is providing hope for the family, who say that finding a match at this point is the only cure.
