Funeral for Guelph pilot killed in 1940 crash

Family members gathered in Guelph to pay their last respects for two Royal Canadian Air Force men killed in a crash in Lake Muskoka more than 70 years ago.
A funeral for Guelph native Tom Bates and Peter Campbell was held on Tuesday. Both men were given full military honours.
They were killed in December of 1940, their plane collided with another above the lake. The plane was found in 2010, but their bodies were not recovered until last year.
Ted’s brother, Tom Bates tells CityNews “We waited 73 years to have this closure come today and we’re really happy.”
The military hopes to raise the plane out of the lake within the next two years.
