Waterloo Regional Police have a man in custody after an early morning incident led them to an apartment building at 3289 King Street East.
Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel says their investigation started around 3 a.m. at another residence.
Police were then able to track the suspect back to his King Street apartment. “We were in contact with him earlier in the morning, and then we lost contact with him,” Heinzel says. “We believed he was still in the apartment by himself, but he was not responding to our continued efforts to contact him.”
Heinzel continued, “while there are certainly matters that are still under investigation relating to this, our understanding is that although a weapon was involved, which we believe was a hammer, property damage was done, but there were no injuries to any persons.”
No names are being released at this time. Also Heinzel says no charges have been laid yet, “the male is likely going to be charged with weapons offences, potentially involving persons known to him. Again, as a precaution we wanted to ensure this man was taken into custody for questioning.”
