TORONTO – The often-delayed inquest into the death of troubled teenager Ashley Smith at a jail in Kitchener, resumes today.
Dr. John Carlisle is expected to rule on three issues.
Among them is a request from the Correctional Service for prison guard faces to be blurred in videos shown during the proceedings.
He’s also expected to decide whether to allow videos from a Quebec prison to be played.
The teen’s family says the videos show her being restrained and forcibly injected with medication.
The Moncton, New Brunswick teen choked herself to death in her cell in Kitchener almost four years ago after years in custody and multiple prison transfers.
The inquest will examine the last 11 months of Smith’s life, when she was transferred between facilities 17 times.
