Waterloo Regional Police Services welcomed 15 new Constables to it’s ranks.
Chief Matt Torigian tells 570 News this is a great day for not only the Police Service or the new officers but also for the community, “We have 15 incredibly accomplished people that have signed up to serve and when we look at the backgrounds and the experiences of each one of our recruits today, this is an exceptional group of officers.”
Constable Harsh Sharma tells 570 News that becoming a member of the force is “surreal,” he said “I’ve been working at this for the last two years, test after test, obstacle after obstacle, this is just a landmark really. Every day for the rest of my life for the next 30 to 35 years I’ll be learning, so I’m excited. I’m excited to get my life on the go,” Sharma adds that he “build great friendships for the last 4 months with my new class and we’re definitely going to stay in touch.”
Constable Mark Herwartz tells 570 News that “it’s a great moment for me,” and that policing is a, “constant learning path,” saying that he will learn every day while on the job, “that’s what Policing is about, learning everyday.”
The ceremony took place in the Rotunda of Kitchener City Hall with a crowd of about 500 family members, friends, local dignitaries and Police Officers.
