Smart Meters in Kitchener

Waterloo North Hydro has flicked the switch on Smart Meters, at least in some areas of the Region.

Waterloo North Hydro Spokesperson, John Janzen says about 25-hundred customers will receive their first ‘time of use’ bill around July 22nd.

Kitchener Wilmot Hydro has started the process too, while Cambridge and North Dumfries is looking to start in early 2012.

Janzen says the conservation initiative brings us closer to paying the real cost of power, as it varies significantly between ‘peak’ and ‘off-peak’ hours. Customers will enjoy the ‘off-peak’ rates.

He also says it’s important to conserve our power for the long-term supply and demand, and to use less whenever possible.

Janzen expects that the Utility’s 51-thousand customers should all be ‘cut over’ by October.

This is an Ontario Government initiative, Smart Meters were installed in homes last year.
