VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Gas prices have passed the $1.30 per litre mark in parts of Vancouver. They haven’t crept this high since the summer of 2008.
Many jaws dropped when people saw the prices this morning. One man we spoke to pulled up to a pump on Cambie Street, telling us, “It was $1.27 yesterday… Man, I think I’ve got to take a drive out to Abbotsford now!”
“I know, it’s so expensive; but I can’t help it, I’m almost on empty,” says one soccer mom.
Most drivers say it’s a cost you just have to suck up. For many, it’s not enough to get them out of their cars. However, some gas station managers may be worried; News1130 was less-than-politely asked to leave two stations this morning.
Gas prices expected to keep rising
Jason Toews with gasbuddy.com says the cost of filling up the tank is expected to go even higher. “This is a trend that we’re seeing all across the country right now.”
“According to the data collected on our website, the average price for Vancouver has risen about two cents per litre since overnight,” he ads. “We’re seeing even higher increases at some stations in the area.”
Analysts blame the increasing unrest in the middle east for the recent surge in crude oil prices.
