“Lock it or Lose it” that’s the message from Waterloo Regional Police this holiday season for shoppers.
They’re reminding you to lock up your vehicle when your at the mall or box stores this month. And you can bet like jolly St. Nick, they’ll be checking to see who’s being naughty and leaving their car, truck, van or SUV vulnerable to thieves or nice and locking it up tight.
Launched last week across the province, the initiative is organized by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
Police remind you to keep presents and other purchases out of sight and not left in the back seat. Keeping your doors locked and don’t leave your car running unattended are other important tips to remember.
Regional police Inspector Greg Lamport tells 570 News it’s really just a matter of focusing on being safe and taking the appropriate measures.
The reminder is a timely one.
On Monday, December 6th a Cambridge family had Christmas gifts stolen from their vehicle by 3 teenagers who were seen entering vehicles in the Hespeler area.
The K-9 unit was called in and the suspects, all 16-years old, were arrested a short time later.
The Christmas gifts were all recovered and returned to the family.
