Efforts to save the Lang Tannery property

A local architect is holding two Jane’s Walks this weekend in an effort to save some of the old buildings on the Lang Tannery property.
The developer plans to preserve the smoke stack but will demolish the rest of the buildings bordering Oak, Linden, Joseph and Victoria and turn that block into a parking lot.
Architect John MacDonald says that space could be better used as a pedestrian-friendly environment.
He says the Hide House could be used as live-work units for startup companies and the Boiler House could become a meeting place.
MacDonald’s tours through the property will be held this morning (SAT) and Sunday morning at 10:30.
The city of Kitchener recently arranged a meeting with the developer to talk about potential alternatives and the issue will be back before councillors at the committee level on Monday.
