Standard Deviation opens two shows

If you’re looking for great theatre you should pick up tickets to “Karenin’s Anna”, and “On the Harmfulness of Tobacco” . The shows open tonight as the second instalment of Standard Deviation.
The community-oriented theatre company was formed in 2009 by six students from the University of Waterloo’s drama department. It began in April with Norm Foster’s “Drinking Alone”.
Tonight is opening night for the Michael Albert play series . Albert, a former Waterloo graduate is now studying play writing in New York at the Actors Studio. Director Greg Carere tells 570 News, he was excited to work with Albert because he’s always admired his work.
“Karenin’s Anna” focuses on Anna (Caitlin Robson), a girl who finds herself frustrated when her first crush gets married. In her quest to move on with her life, she enters a green-card marriage with a Russian native named Sergei (Paul Carere).
Meanwhile, “On the Harmfulness of Tobacco”, (originally written by Anton Checkov) has been translated by Albert. It’s a one-man lecture starring Reid Vanier, who plays Nyuhkin.
Carere says the plays are a unique blend of comedy and tragedy. He hopes the audience will be able to relate to the characters, and enjoy their stories.
