Police launch criminal investigation into suspicious package

Guelph police have launched a criminal investigation into a suspicious package that prompted an evacuation in the city’s downtown today.

A section of Wyndham street was closed at noon for about four hours as police investigated.

They say information led them to open a criminal investigation on the package handled by Canada Post.

The Waterloo regional police bomb disposal unit was called in to destroy it and the contents were not an explosive.

Some businesses near the scene were evacuated.

Traffic and city buses were also rerouted.
