The Waterloo Region District School Board is stepping up to help those in need in Haiti.
It’s dubbed “Help for Haiti–Because We Care”, and 120 schools in the region are on board.
Tom Connolly is the co-ordinator for the Trauma Response Team for the Waterloo Region District School Board.
He tells 570 News a team of facilitators are co-ordinating communication and collection in all of the schools.
The fundraising goes directly to the Canadian Red Cross and the Mennonite Central Committee, which drastically cuts down on any bureaucratic fees.
The schools are doing a variety of activities like Knick Knacks for Back Backs, popcorn days, bake sales, Hats for Haiti and pizza days.
Tomorrow, some students and teachers at several schools will be wearing the official colours of Haiti; blue and red.
Connolly says there is no specific target in mind, the goal is just to raise as much money as possible.
The last time a fundraising effort of this magnitude was held was back in 2004 for the Tsunami and over $300,000 was raised in five days.
