Children’s museum requests more funds from region

The Children’s Museum is asking Waterloo Region and the tri-cities for $600,000 a year in additional operational funding.
It warns, if does not get more financing, it may be forced to reduce programming.
Top museum officials appeared before Kitchener City Council last night and said they are working to find long-term sustainable funding, but in the meantime, they need the additional municipal support.
Today’s Record reports, Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr would rather see that gap bridged sooner rather than later, so municipalities don’t have to provide such a large amount of money.
Kitchener and Waterloo Region are each being asked for 300-thousand-dollars, while the museum hopes the City of Waterloo will commit to 50-thousand-dollars and Cambridge to 25-thousand.
The museum may get an answer at Monday’s final Kitchener budget meeting.
City staff has been directed to provide funding options at that meeting.
