Accelerator Centre top job for the taking

The top job at Waterloo’s Accelerator Centre is up for grabs.

The award-winning centre for the cultivation of technology entrepreneurship will soon start a search for a new CEO, when Dr. Tom Corr leaves that job to become the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Centres of Excellence Inc.

Corr’s new job starts March 1st, and current Director of Operations, Tim Ellis, tells 570 News he will move up to be the interim Chief Operating Officer, and Board Chair, Ian McPhee becomes the interim CEO.

Ellis says before the Centre starts the search for a new CEO, it first has to decide if the CEO position should still be co-appointed with the University of Waterloo, as Dr. Corr was.

After that, he says, it will be easier to know if the search will be just within Canada, or world-wide.

Corr also serves as Vice-President of Commercialization at U-W.

Ellis says such a change does not indicate stopping or reducing the Centre’s relationship with the University, it’s just a matter of whether their link can work with one person for both institutions, or if each has separate leadership.

Ellis says the search process could get underway as soon as six months from now.
