Al-Qaida claims responsibility for failed bombing of a U.S. airliner

Al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for a botched attempt to blow up a U-S airliner. In a statement posted online, the group says the plot was retaliation for a U-S operation against them in Yemen.

The group says Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab used explosives manufactured by al-Qaida members.

The incident has prompted a warning from U-S President Barack Obama. In a statement today he said the United States would respond aggressively to terrorism.

Speaking from his vacation in Hawaii, he said the United States will aggressively pursue all involved in this potential attack.

Obama said he’s ordered a review of the U-S watch list system and it’s air safety regulations.
