Missing gold from Canadian Mint not stolen

It turns out that 15.3 million dollars in gold wasn’t stolen from the Canadian Mint after all. Three independent security and accounting reviews did find 8 million was miscounted. More than 3 million was sold off as slag, at a fraction of its value. And another 1.6 million was found in buildings and machinery. Much of the rest was used up in the minting process, including as gold dust. The reports say there is no evidence the Mint was sloppy or careless and, in fact, it exceeds the industry standard. There had been speculation the Mint had been robbed but last month the Mounties said there would be no criminal investigation, citing a lack of evidence.
