Kitchener home ‘uninhabitable’ after weekend fire

The Kitchener Fire Department released more details after crews were called to the city’s Idlewood neighbourhood early Sunday.

Just before 6:30 a.m., a fire broke out at a house on Notchwood Court, off Old Chicopee Drive.

The blaze was extensive, with crews reporting flames on multiple levels of the home.

City of Kitchener officials confirm with 570 NewsRadio that one person was home at the time of the fire. They were able to get out of the house safely.

“Upon arrival, crews observed extensive fire on the exterior of the building, with flames having breached into the second floor and attic area,” reads a release from the city.

Damage from the fire is estimated to be between $400,000 and $500,000.

“Due to significant structural and smoke damage, the home is considered uninhabitable.”

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday morning.
