Crash Snarls Traffic on Highway 8 East

Neither man nor beast suffered injury when a tractor-trailer full of pigs crashed on Highway 8 East this morning.
OPP Sergeant Tony Moriarty tells 570 News at the scene the driver and the animals on-board were fine after the truck hit and wedged itself onto the concrete median at the exit to Old King.
The driver tells 570 News he was blinded by sunlight and cut off by another vehicle — Moriarty says sunlight may have been a contributing factor to the 8:15 a.m. crash.
Emergency workers disconnected the undamaged trailer portion of the vehicle, with all the pigs still on-board, and hook it up to a new truck cab to get the animals off the highway.
Moriarty says they were concerned about the pigs getting cold being stuck on the highway for a couple hours, but they did not want to unload the pigs on the highway itself.
The crash closed down the eastbound lanes completely.
The crash happened in the same spot where another tractor trailer crash happened about a month ago — that truck was carrying cardboard that subsequently caught on fire.
Moriarty says the two crashes in the same spot is just a coincidence, but adds between the construction area there and the sunlight, he asks all drivers to use extra caution.
