A 82-year-old woman from Kitchener is now facing charges of careless driving – following a collision involving an LRT train in Waterloo.

That crash lead to temporary lane closures in the King Street and Union Street area on Tuesday afternoon as police conducted their investigation.

Responding to that area on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m., police later determined that the driver of a Toyota vehicle was traveling on King Street South when they attempted to turn left onto Union Street, colliding with a northbound LRT train.

The 82-year-old driver of that Toyota has since been charged with careless driving.

Police note there were no physical injuries reported as a result of that collision.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, is asked to contact the WRPS Traffic Services Unit at 519-570-9777 ext. 8856.
