Blair Engaged plans to continue fighting Amazon warehouse

By Jonathan Strom

On Tuesday, Amazon announced that they are the tenant for the land at 140 Old Mill Road in Blair.

Alan Van Norman is a co-chair of Blair Engaged, a citizens group that opposes the building of the warehouse. He said the group still plans to oppose the warehouse.

“Time is short, we have made an application which has been made for judicial review, but that won't be heard until February,” said Van Norman. “We're still here, and we're going to continue to argue against this proposal.”

Van Norman added that dealing with Cambridge council has been challenging, and that makes the upcoming municipal election of the utmost importance.

“Under the current mayor's leadership, we have been very badly misled on this whole process,” he said. “Right from the very beginning, the community has been shut out of any decision making.”

The warehouse is expected to open in 2025, and Amazon said that 1,000 new jobs will be created for the fulfillment centre.

Blair Engaged has expressed that one of their main concerns regarding the new warehouse is the increased traffic that will come in and out of the community.
