Area councils approve MOU for proposed hydro merger

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The proposed merger between Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro and Waterloo North Hydro has passed the first step.

Municipal councils in Kitchener, Waterloo, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich all approved the Memorandum of Understanding this week.

The next step in the process is community engagement.

Both utilities will hold joint public information sessions on Tuesday, October 19 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Due to the pandemic, they will be held online, but residents will also be able to gain access via telephone.

Customers and residents can register for the virtual public information sessions at www.connectinglocalpower.ca, by email at info@connectinglocalpower.ca or by telephone at 519-747-6334 ext. 78334.

The proposed merger was announced on Friday.

If it goes ahead, final approval is not expected until late 2022.
